Mom, what’s for dinner or honey, what’s for dinner are common refrains that I hear in my house. Well, on days that I don’t want to cook, I have to feed the family somehow. Telling a 3-year-old and 8 year old to fend for themselves wouldn’t go over so well, so we go out to eat instead. However, finding a good family-friendly restaurant option can be a challenge in itself.

So, where to eat with kids in Orlando? Here are 9 places that we suggest:

Benihana: Sushi & Japanese Steakhouse

My 8-year loves going out for hibachi and Benihana is the original hibachi restaurant. We took my 3-year old recently, and he loooooved it. Words cannot express how much he loved it. If you have never been out for hibachi, it is dinner and a show rolled into one. Everyone sits around a cook, who cooks the food on a hibachi grill right in front of you. There is flipping of cooking tools, food flipped into mouths, fire volcanoes, and more.

It can be a little pricey, so I would recommend it for a special occasion, but it is a must-do dining experience and well worth the cost.

Melting Pot

My daughter’s favorite places is a restaurant called the  Melting Pot. She asks to go there every year for her birthday. As the name suggests, Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant. They offer both cheese fondue, to start or as a main, and chocolate fondue for dessert. Typically, we get the 4-course meal that starts with the cheese fondue, followed by a salad, an entree (which you cook in the broth of your choice), and then ends with chocolate fondue.

While we love Melting Pot, it is a bit pricey for an all-the-time restaurant option, so we typically only go for special occasions. They do have discounted meal options that they offer throughout the year, though, so I recommend looking out for those for this unique experience.

I use Rakuten to get rebates on my everyday shopping online and then use the money that I have saved to go out to dinner with the family.

Plant Street Market

If you are not certain what type of food you want to eat, then one of the best places is Plant Street Market is a good choice. Inside the market, you will find a variety of different restaurants with enough food options to make everyone in the family happy. Choose from dressed-up mac and cheese, barbeque, pizza, sushi and deli sandwiches, and more. For dessert, grab some freshly made donuts or a hand-made popsicle. There is also an on-site brewery, Crooked Can, for the grown-ups to grab some great drinks.

Take everything outside to one of the tables on the patio and enjoy your meal.

We love Groupon for getting discounts on favorite restaurants and trying out new ones.

Raglan Road

Raglan Road at Disney Springs is perfect place for Irish Pub Food. I am a sucker for the Fish and chips or the Shepherd’s pie. My daughter loves the Bangers and Mash and it’s Pie in the Sky for my husband. For dessert, I highly recommend the bread and butter pudding. You’ll want to visit from 4:30 to 9:30 every day or for Brunch on the weekend so that you can take in the live entertainment Rhythms of Ragland show with Irish dancers and live musicians. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment, which is great for the whole family!

Rainforest Café

I love Rainforest Café. I used to work there as a waitress in my pre-kid years. This is one of a few themed restaurants and is made to appear, as a surprise surprise, Rainforest. Every 30 minutes there is a faux rainstorm with lightning and thunder where all the animatronic animals go crazy. Inside, there are a variety of animals, including elephants, gorillas, monkeys, and more. This is definitely one of the best kid-friendly restaurants with a great atmosphere in Orlando.

Don’t think you are going to have to settle for unpalatable food. Rainforest is a great place to eat with kids in Orlando as it has great food for both adults and kids alike. We recommend the Pastalaya and the Mojo Bones.

Tip: Ask to sit next to your favorite animal so you can be right next to them when they “come alive.”

Taverna Opa

Take the entire family to try some scrumptious Greek food at Taverna Opa. Dig into some good food, starting with appetizers such as Greek Country Sausage, meatballs and lamb sliders. They also serve a variety of seafood and wood fired meats that the adults will enjoy and if you have a little foodie on your hands, they will enjoy it too. They also serve traditional Greek dishes such as Spanakopita, Mousakka, and Pastitsio (just tell kids that this is mac and cheese, and they will love it.) Make sure to go for dinner and enjoy the nightly belly dancing show. Shows start at 7pm every evening for this great experience.

After Dinner at Taverna Opa, we recommend taking a ride on The Wheel at Icon Park.

The Sugar Factory

Who doesn’t want to dine in a candy factory? The Sugar Factory is a great option to go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They have a variety of menu items that are great for both adults and kids. Macaroni and cheese pops, chicken and waffles, cookies and cream pancakes, and crepes are just some of the items they have on the menu. Kids will love getting one of the specialty drinks served with dry ice to give it a smoky look; they also come with alcohol for adults.

For dessert, order one of the specialty milkshakes, sundaes, or hot chocolates. If you and your brood are especially hungry, then order the King Kong sundae; it is 24 Scoops of Ice Cream covered with Hot Fudge, Caramel and Strawberry Sauce, Sliced Bananas, Toasted Marshmallows, Reese’s® Pieces, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Crushed Waffle Cones, Gummy Bears, White Chocolate Strawberry Shavings and Toasted Walnuts with Whipped Cream, Giant Lollipops and Sparklers on top! Even picky eaters are sure to love this excellent Orlando restaurant.

Toothsome Chocolate Emporium

Take the kids over to Universal CityWalk, near Islands of Adventure at Universal Orlando,  to enjoy the steampunk world of Toothsome Chocolate Emporium. Yes, they do offer traditional restaurant fares such as burgers, pizza, pasta, and salad, but why you are really going is to satisfy your sweet tooth – the desserts, especially the over-the-top milkshakes featuring candy bars, chocolate-covered bananas, rice krispie treats, cupcakes, and more.

Kids will also enjoy meeting Penelope Toothsome, the proprietor of Toothsome Chocolate Emporium. Penelope traveled all over the world and learned how to make special chocolate recipes. She decided to open an emporium and share her recipes with the world. Penelope has a robot named Jacques who also makes appearances at the emporium.

Visit Universal Studios for some great family fun before dinner at Toothsome Chocolate Emporium.

T-Rex

T-Rex features replicas of dinosaurs as well as animatronic dinosaurs that come “alive”. This interactive experience restaurant features a wooly mammoth and a giant octopus with tentacles that move. The restaurant is separated into different rooms. There is an ice age room, a meteor shower room, and an underwater room. You are allowed to walk around the restaurant and look at the different rooms and all the animals.

Every 20 minutes, a meteor shower takes place; that’s when meteors stream across the sky, I mean the ceiling of the restaurant, and all the animals go crazy. The restaurant does get dark at this point and there is thunder in the background. So if you are near Walt Disney World, stop info a surprise visit for the family.

The food is nothing to write home about; I would recommend sticking to burgers and fries at this restaurant.
