This past week, the kids and I took a short beach break to the newest Margaritaville hotel in Jacksonville Beach. It was a great two-day getaway and we enjoyed spending some quality time together outside of the house.

Margaritaville Jacksonville Beach Hotel

The hotel is located right on the beach in Jacksonville. When you go up to the lobby to check in, right in front of you is the ocean and they take advantage of the view with floor to ceiling windows. The only thing obscuring your view is a giant flip flop, which is in all the Margaritaville properties.  There is seating space in the lobby if you want to hang in side and enjoy the ambience.

The decor of the Margaritaville Jax hotel is bright and tropical and also warm and inviting. My 6-year old exclaimed “this place is great” when we entered the building. I definitely agreed with him. I loved the look and feel of the hotel.

Check in was super easy and the check in person was extremely friendly. We were off  to our Partial Oceanview room in no time.

When I stay by the beach, I want to be able to look out at the water, but Oceanview rooms are sometimes more than what I want to spend, so a Partial Oceanview is usually where I end up. While our room didn’t have a traditional balcony like the Oceanview rooms, it was more of a french balcony, it was good enough for us. I could open the balcony door and hear and see the ocean. There was a comfortable swivel chair right by the balcony that I could sit in and look out at the water, which I did to watch the sunset both nights we were there.

The tropical theme of the hotel extends to the rooms. While the room wasn’t large, it was enough space for me and my two kids and who comes to the beach to stay inside anyway.

What is there to do at Margaritaville Jax Beach

There aren’t a lot of activities to do at the hotel itself. It is more about rest and relaxation and enjoying the pool and the beach. The hotel has a pool that stretches along almost the entire back of the hotel and has a great view of the beach.

There were volleyball nets right outside of our hotel, and my daughter had brought along her volleyball, so we played volleyball for a while on the second day. We walked along the beach and collected shells and we walked into town and had lunch at a great Indian restaurant called Jax Spice. There is a boardwalk outside of the hotel where you can go for a walk, but they are doing construction right now, so the walk is a bit impeded.

We saw lots of folks riding bikes on the beach. You can bring your own or rent some from Jax Beach Surf Shop or Rent Beach Stuff. You can also rent surfboards, body boards and stand up paddle boards. Rent Beach Stuff also has surfing and stand up paddle boarding lessons.

Dining at the Margaritaville Jacksonville Beach Hotel

The hotel has one restaurant the Landshark Bar and Grill, which has upstairs and downstairs seating. The upstairs portion is right off the lobby and there is outside seating available where you can enjoy a drink or a meal with the a gorgeous view of beach.

The downstairs part of the Landshark Bar and Grill has a huge fire pit and lots of outdoor seating. We definitely took advantage of the fire pit on the first night as it was pretty cold during our trip.

The hotel also has a coffee shop, located off the lobby, that serves coffee, tea, pastries and sandwiches. We grabbed a snack here after we arrived and had breakfast here the next morning.

Things to Note

Due to COVID, housekeeping services are not available during your stay, but you can request extra towels or toiletries if you need them.

While signage did say masks were required indoors, this was not being enforced for guests, but all employees did wear masks. There was sanitizer available in multiple spots, but it was sometimes hard to find, so I would advise bringing some with you.

The rooms do have a decent size mini fridge, so bring along some drinks and snacks. If you are a tea drinker like I am, you will want to bring some tea bags as well; none were available in the room.

There is nowhere close by for breakfast, except the coffee shop in the lobby which serves breakfast sandwiches. If you want a sit down place, you will need to drive over to 3rd street or Beach Blvd. which have lots of options.

Go or No Go

The kids and I recommend the Margaritaville Jacksonville Beach for a nice beach break that is just far enough away from Orlando.
